Symptoms

  • Unstable idle speed
  • Reduced engine power
  • Increased fuel consumption
  • Difficulty starting the engine
  • Check Engine Light on Dashboard
  • Rough engine idle

Causes

  • Open or short circuit in VVT solenoid wiring
  • Faulty variable valve timing solenoid
  • Oxidized or damaged connectors
  • Low voltage in the on-board network
  • Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)
  • Contaminated engine oil or incorrect viscosity

How to Fix

  1. Check the level and condition of the engine oil, replace if necessary
  2. Visually inspect the bank 2 VVT solenoid wiring and connectors
  3. Measure the voltage at the solenoid connector with the engine running.
  4. Check the solenoid resistance with a multimeter
  5. Clean the connector contacts from oxides
  6. Replace VVT solenoid if necessary
  7. Check and repair damaged wiring
  8. Clear error memory and test drive
