Symptoms

- Difficulty starting the engine
- Check Engine Light on Dashboard
- Rough engine idle
Causes
- Open or short circuit in VVT solenoid wiring
- Faulty variable valve timing solenoid
- Oxidized or damaged connectors
- Low voltage in the on-board network
- Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)
- Contaminated engine oil or incorrect viscosity
How to Fix
- Check the level and condition of the engine oil, replace if necessary
- Visually inspect the bank 2 VVT solenoid wiring and connectors
- Measure the voltage at the solenoid connector with the engine running.
- Check the solenoid resistance with a multimeter
- Clean the connector contacts from oxides
- Replace VVT solenoid if necessary
- Check and repair damaged wiring
- Clear error memory and test drive
