Symptoms

  • Check Engine light on
  • Unstable idle (engine runs rough)
  • Increased fuel consumption in urban modes
  • Unusual engine sound when idling
  • Possible increased oil consumption

Causes

  • Oil passages clogged - shift mechanism cannot return
  • Worn or scuffed cam profile switching mechanism
  • Short circuit in control wire to power - solenoid is constantly activated
  • Insufficient oil pressure to return shift plunger
  • Thickened oil at low temperatures (temporary problem)

How to Fix

  1. Check the solenoid control circuit for short circuit for power (the wire should not be energized when the solenoid is turned off)
  2. Make sure the engine oil pressure and viscosity are normal
  3. Carry out an engine flush (oil flush) to clean the channels.
  4. Check the condition of the oil channels of the block head (with an endoscope)
  5. Replace actuator solenoid C if it does not close completely.
  6. Carry out diagnostics of the mechanical part of the cam profile switching system
