Symptoms
- Check Engine light on
- No switching to high power mode
- Loss of power and throttle response when accelerating
- The engine does not respond to increased speed by switching to “sport” mode
- Possible extraneous knocking sound in the block head when trying to switch
Causes
- Solenoid control wire shorted to ground
- Internal solenoid failure with winding short circuit
- Damage to the control circuit connector
- Malfunction of the ECU output transistor (controls this solenoid)
- Dirty oil passages causing mechanical resistance (not electrical cause)
How to Fix
- Measure the voltage at the solenoid connector when attempting to activate the shift system.
- Check the resistance of the solenoid winding (usually 6-14 ohms)
- Ring the control wire for short circuit to ground
- Make sure the engine oil level and pressure are normal
- Replace faulty actuator solenoid C
- If you suspect an ECU, contact a specialist to check the output stage
