Symptoms

• Check Engine light on
• No switching to high power mode
• Loss of power and throttle response when accelerating
• The engine does not respond to increased speed by switching to “sport” mode
• Possible extraneous knocking sound in the block head when trying to switch

Causes

• Solenoid control wire shorted to ground
• Internal solenoid failure with winding short circuit
• Damage to the control circuit connector
• Malfunction of the ECU output transistor (controls this solenoid)
• Dirty oil passages causing mechanical resistance (not electrical cause)

How to Fix

1. Measure the voltage at the solenoid connector when attempting to activate the shift system.
2. Check the resistance of the solenoid winding (usually 6-14 ohms)
3. Ring the control wire for short circuit to ground
4. Make sure the engine oil level and pressure are normal
5. Replace faulty actuator solenoid C
6. If you suspect an ECU, contact a specialist to check the output stage
