Approx. repair cost
$3–89 (est.)

Symptoms

  • Check Engine light is on
  • Increased emissions during cold start
  • Extraneous noise when the AIR system is operating
  • The error can only appear during a cold start
  • Potential increase in fuel consumption

Causes

  • Short circuit in switching valve B wiring (to ground or power)
  • Faulty AIR B changeover valve solenoid
  • Damage to wiring insulation due to overheating or mechanical stress
  • Moisture entering the valve connector
  • AIR system relay malfunction
  • Internal short circuit in the ECU (rare)

How to Fix

  1. Read error codes and record current data
  2. Visually inspect the wiring and connector of switch valve B
  3. Measure the resistance of the valve solenoid (normal 20–30 ohms; less than 5 ohms - short circuit)
  4. Check the wiring from the ECU to the valve for short to ground.
  5. Check AIR system relays and fuses
  6. Replace switching valve B if a short is confirmed.
  7. Check the condition of the ECU connector
  8. Reset code and perform cold start test
