P0445

Symptoms

• Check Engine light is on
• The smell of fuel coming from under the hood or near the car
• Unstable idle
• Unstable fuel mixture due to uncontrolled release of vapors
• Increased fuel consumption
• EVAP system leak test fails

Causes

• Short circuit inside the purge valve solenoid
• Valve wiring shorted to ground or power
• Damage to wire insulation in the harness
• Moisture entering the valve connector
• Mechanical damage to the valve (shock, overheating)
• ECU malfunction (control output stage)

How to Fix

1. Read all error codes with scanner
2. Locate EVAP purge valve A and inspect its wiring and connector
3. Disconnect the valve connector and measure the solenoid resistance (normal: 15–30 ohms; much less - shorted)
4. Check the wiring from the valve to the ECU for short to ground
5. Check the presence of supply voltage at the valve connector
6. Replace purge valve if internal short is confirmed
7. Eliminate wiring damage due to external short circuit
8. Reset codes and perform EVAP test with scanner
