Symptoms
- Check Engine light is on
- The smell of fuel from under the car
- Difficulty opening the gas cap (tank pressure)
- EVAP system leak test failure
- Possible unstable idle due to over-richness of the mixture
- Increased fuel consumption
Causes
- Clogged or blocked EVAP canister vent valve
- Kinked or clogged fuel tank ventilation hose
- EVAP pressure sensor wiring short circuit to power
- Faulty fuel tank pressure sensor
- Clogged carbon adsorber
- Defective gas cap
- Damaged fuel pump with faulty built-in check valve
How to Fix
- Read all error codes with scanner
- Check the gas cap for tight closure and seal integrity.
- Check the voltage of the EVAP pressure sensor with the ignition on
- Inspect the fuel tank and adsorber ventilation hoses for kinks and blockages.
- Check the ventilation valve of the adsorber (canister) for functionality
- Replace the EVAP pressure sensor if it is confirmed to be faulty
- Carry out a leak test of the EVAP system with a scanner
- Reset error and recheck
