Symptoms

• Cruise control does not activate
• Check Engine Light Illuminates
• The cruise control indicator does not light up when the ON button is pressed
• Spontaneous activation or deactivation of cruise control (rare)
• Other steering wheel buttons may not work correctly

Causes

• Malfunction of the cruise control button
• Broken or damaged steering wheel cable
• Oxidation of contacts in the cable connector
• Cruise control module malfunction
• Lost contact in spiral cable (clock spring)

How to Fix

1. Check the ON button of the cruise control with a multimeter for the presence of a signal when pressed
2. Inspect the steering wheel cable connectors for oxidation and damage.
3. Check the integrity of the spiral cable (clock spring)
4. Diagnose the cruise control module with a scanner
5. Replace a faulty steering wheel button or cable
6. Reset the error and check the operation of the cruise control
