Symptoms

  • Inability to set cruise control speed
  • Check Engine Light Illuminates
  • Cruise control turns on but does not register speed
  • Incorrect operation of adjacent steering wheel buttons
  • Spontaneous change in cruise control speed (rare)

Causes

  • Worn or stuck SET button on the steering wheel
  • Oxidation of contacts or change in resistance in the resistive circuit of buttons
  • Damage to the steering wheel cable (spiral cable)
  • Cruise control module malfunction
  • Break in the wiring between the steering wheel and the ECU

How to Fix

  1. Check the SET button signal using a real-time scanner
  2. Measure the resistance of the button with a multimeter (compare with the specification)
  3. Inspect and check the steering wheel cable (spiral cable)
  4. Check the cable connectors for oxidation and connection reliability
  5. If necessary, replace the steering wheel button block or cable
  6. Reset the error and test the operation of the cruise control system
