Active Grille Air Shutter Module A Over Temperature

Severity
⚠️ Medium
Can you drive?
Limited driving only, diagnose soon
Approx. repair cost
$33–222 (est.)

Symptoms

  • Check Engine Light Is On
  • Possible engine overheating during heavy driving
  • Active grille shutters hang in one position
  • Deterioration of aerodynamics or engine cooling
  • Cooling system fault warning on display

Causes

  • Mechanical blocking of blinds (foreign object, ice, deformation of plates)
  • Blind motor overload due to mechanical resistance
  • General overheating of the engine compartment due to a malfunction of the cooling system
  • Malfunction of the blinds control module itself (electronics failure)
  • Damage to the wiring or module connector

How to Fix

  1. Check the coolant temperature - if the engine overheats, stop immediately and turn off the engine
  2. Inspect the front grille for foreign objects, ice, and deformation of the louvers.
  3. Check the mechanical freedom of movement of the blinds - the plates should move without force
  4. Use a scanner to check data in real time: position of the blinds, module temperature, ECU commands
  5. Inspect the connector and wiring of blind module A for damage and oxidation.
  6. Replace the blinds control module if its failure is confirmed; in case of mechanical blocking - remove the obstacle
