Approx. repair cost
$22–167 (est.)

Symptoms

  • Check Engine light is on
  • Mode selection switch A does not work
  • System fixed in default mode
  • Fault warning message on the information display
  • Complete loss of the ability to change the driving mode via switch A

Causes

  • Switch A signal wire short to ground
  • Loss of switch power (broken reference wire)
  • Internal short circuit of switch A to the body
  • Severe oxidation of connector contacts with large voltage drop
  • Mechanical sticking of the switch (constantly pressed position)

How to Fix

  1. Read frozen frame codes and data with a diagnostic scanner
  2. Inspect switch A: there is no mechanical binding, foreign objects under the button
  3. Check the switch connector for oxidation and contact damage
  4. Disconnect the switch connector and measure the voltage on the reference wire - it should be about 5V
  5. If there is a reference voltage: measure the resistance between the signal wire and ground with the switch off - a short will indicate damage to the wiring
  6. Replace the switch or repair damaged wiring
