Symptoms

  • Check Engine Light Is On
  • Fixation in one driving mode without the possibility of changing
  • Incorrect operation of the adaptive transmission or suspension

  • Changed engine response to the gas pedal

Causes

  • Switch B signal wire short to supply voltage
  • Damage to the insulation of the wiring harness under the instrument panel
  • Internal short in mode switch B
  • Connector oxidation leading to stray voltage
  • ECU malfunction (rare)

How to Fix

  1. Read all fault codes and write down associated codes
  2. Disconnect switch B connector and check the voltage on the signal wire - it should drop to zero when the switch is disconnected
  3. If the voltage remains high when the connector is disconnected, look for a short in the wiring harness.
  4. Inspect the harness in the area of the steering column and under the instrument panel for abrasions and short circuits.
  5. Check the serviceability of the switch itself with an ohmmeter
  6. Repair short in wiring or replace mode switch B
