PCV Regulator Valve Control Circuit/Open

Symptoms

  • Check Engine Light Is On
  • Unstable engine idling
  • Increased oil consumption
  • Exhaust smell in the cabin
  • The appearance of smoke from under the hood when the engine is running for a long time
  • Dirty throttle valve and intake manifold

Causes

  • Open wire in PCV valve control circuit
  • Faulty (burnt or oxidized) PCV regulator valve connector
  • Internal break in PCV solenoid valve winding
  • Damage to the wiring harness in the engine area due to high temperatures
  • ECU output driver malfunction (rare)

How to Fix

  1. Read fault codes; pay attention to the associated crankcase ventilation system codes
  2. Visually inspect the PCV valve and its connector for oil contamination, corrosion, melted insulation
  3. Check the presence of power and control signal at the valve connector with the engine running.
  4. Measure the resistance of the PCV valve winding - compare with the standard according to the documentation
  5. Check the control wire from the ECU to the valve for a break
  6. Replace the PCV regulator valve if it is confirmed to be faulty
