Symptoms
- Check Engine Light Is On
- Unstable engine idling
- Increased oil consumption
- Exhaust smell in the cabin
- The appearance of smoke from under the hood when the engine is running for a long time
- Dirty throttle valve and intake manifold
Causes
- Open wire in PCV valve control circuit
- Faulty (burnt or oxidized) PCV regulator valve connector
- Internal break in PCV solenoid valve winding
- Damage to the wiring harness in the engine area due to high temperatures
- ECU output driver malfunction (rare)
How to Fix
- Read fault codes; pay attention to the associated crankcase ventilation system codes
- Visually inspect the PCV valve and its connector for oil contamination, corrosion, melted insulation
- Check the presence of power and control signal at the valve connector with the engine running.
- Measure the resistance of the PCV valve winding - compare with the standard according to the documentation
- Check the control wire from the ECU to the valve for a break
- Replace the PCV regulator valve if it is confirmed to be faulty
