Turbocharger/Supercharger Boost Control A Temperature Too High

Severity
🔴 High
Can you drive?
Yes, but get it checked soon
Approx. repair cost
$56–667 (est.)

Symptoms

  • Significant loss of engine power (Limp Mode)
  • Check Engine Light Is On
  • Possible engine overheating (coolant temperature is higher than normal)
  • Increased exhaust gas temperature
  • Increased fuel consumption with reduced power

Causes

  • Engine overheating (cooling system malfunction)
  • Low oil pressure (insufficient turbine cooling)
  • Turbine actuator malfunction (overheating due to internal friction)
  • Clogged oil supply line to the turbine
  • Actuator temperature sensor malfunction

How to Fix

  1. Immediately check the coolant temperature (if the engine is overheated)
  2. Check oil level and pressure
  3. Check the condition of the oil line to the turbine for clogging
  4. Allow the engine to cool before further diagnostics.
  5. Check the turbine actuator and temperature sensor
  6. Diagnose the cooling system (thermostat, radiator, pump)
