Symptoms

• The Check Engine light comes on
• Incorrect operation of configuration-dependent systems
• Failures after installing a used ECU
• Incorrect behavior of automatic transmission or all-wheel drive
• Problems with comfort and safety systems

Causes

• Installing an ECU from another car without reprogramming
• Corruption of configuration data due to power failure during recording
• Incorrect ECU reprogramming
• Resetting the ECU to factory settings without entering configuration data
• Damage to non-volatile memory (EEPROM) of the ECU

How to Fix

1. Read complete vehicle configuration data via dealer scanner
2. Make sure that the ECU is designed for this model and configuration
3. Reprogram the ECU with the correct configuration data
4. When using a used ECU, perform full programming for the vehicle’s VIN
5. Contact an authorized dealer if it is impossible to do the programming yourself.
