Symptoms

  • The Check Engine light comes on
  • Unstable engine speed, random fluctuations
  • Misfire
  • Incorrect automatic transmission control (depending on speed)
  • Difficult start in combination with other codes

Causes

  • Internal RPM signal processing error in the ECU
  • Noisy crankshaft position (CKP) sensor signal
  • Malfunction of the ADC in the CKP sensor circuit in the ECU
  • Interference from ignition or generator systems
  • Physical ECU malfunction

How to Fix

  1. Check for additional codes P0335/P0336 (CKP sensor)
  2. Check the gap and condition of the crankshaft position sensor
  3. Check the drive disk (ring gear) for damage to the teeth
  4. Check the shielding and cable routing of the CKP sensor
  5. Diagnostics of the CKP signal with an oscilloscope
  6. If the sensor is working - ECU diagnostics
