Symptoms

  • Cruise control failure or malfunctions
  • Errors in ESP/ABS systems using VSS data

Causes

  • Internal VSS signal processing error in ECU
  • Noisy or unstable speed sensor input signal
  • Inconsistency of VSS data from different sources (transmission sensor vs. ABS)
  • ECU firmware software failure
  • Physical ECU malfunction

How to Fix

  1. Read error codes from all units - ECU, ABS, transmission
  2. Check real speed readings through the scanner while driving
  3. Check Transmission Speed Sensor (VSS) - Resistance and Signal
  4. Check wiring from VSS to ECU
  5. If there is a discrepancy between data from different sources, find the reason for the discrepancy
  6. If external sources are working - ECU diagnostics
