Symptoms

  • The Check Engine light comes on
  • Reset all adaptive ECU settings
  • Unstable engine operation when warming up
  • Increased fuel consumption
  • Possible loss of immobilizer or VIN settings

Causes

  • Physical malfunction of the EEPROM chip in the ECU
  • Power surge damaging EEPROM
  • Exceeding the number of write cycles (chip fatigue)
  • Incorrect ECU reprogramming procedure
  • Long-term storage at low temperatures or exposure to moisture

How to Fix

  1. Reset the error and check for recurrence - eliminate accidental failure
  2. Check the ECU supply voltage for stability
  3. Try to reprogram the ECU with original firmware
  4. Send the ECU to a specialized service to replace the EEPROM chip
  5. If repair is impossible, replace the ECU with VIN programming
  6. After replacement, perform all necessary initialization procedures
