Symptoms

  • Check Engine light comes on
  • The engine does not start or is difficult to start
  • Unstable idle and jerking when driving
  • Dips when pressing hard on the gas
  • Engine stalls under load

Causes

  • Fuel pump control module (FPCM) internal malfunction
  • Lost communication between ECU and FPCM
  • FPCM module power or ground fault
  • Damage to the wiring between the ECU and FPCM
  • Malfunction of the fuel pump itself (load on the module)

How to Fix

  1. Check the fuel pressure with a pressure gauge
  2. Check FPCM power supply and ground
  3. Inspect the wiring and connectors between the ECU and FPCM
  4. Check for U-codes (communication errors) in the ECU memory
  5. Diagnose the FPCM module with a specialized scanner
  6. If the malfunction is confirmed, replace the FPCM module
