Symptoms

  • Check Engine Light
  • The fan runs constantly or does not turn off
  • Unstable engine temperature
  • Increased power consumption due to constantly running fan
  • Fan noise when engine is cold

Causes

  • Short circuit of the control wire to power (+12 V)
  • Fan ground circuit open
  • Cooling Fan 1 Relay Malfunction
  • Damage to wiring or connectors
  • Internal ECU fault

How to Fix

  1. Read OBD-II codes
  2. Check the operation of the fan with a cold and hot engine
  3. Measure the voltage in the fan control circuit 1
  4. Check relay and connector
  5. Check the control wire for short to power
  6. If the circuit is working properly - ECU diagnostics
