Symptoms

  • Check Engine Light
  • The second fan runs constantly
  • Increased energy consumption
  • Noise of the second fan when the engine is cold
  • Accelerated wear on the fan motor

Causes

  • Short circuit of the control wire to power (+12 V)
  • Open ground circuit
  • Second cooling fan relay malfunction
  • Damage to wiring or connectors
  • Internal ECU fault

How to Fix

  1. Read OBD-II codes
  2. Check the operation of the second fan when the engine is cold
  3. Measure the voltage in the fan control circuit 2
  4. Check the second fan relay
  5. Check the wire for short to power
  6. If the circuit is working properly - ECU diagnostics
