Symptoms

  • Difficult or impossible starting at low temperatures
  • Increased level of white smoke during cold start
  • Check Engine Light Illuminates
  • Unstable engine operation when warming up
  • Increased fuel consumption in cold conditions

Causes

  • Broken glow plug control wire for cylinder 10
  • Control wire short circuit to power
  • Faulty transistor switch or glow plug relay
  • Poor contact in control circuit connector
  • Internal ECU malfunction (rare)

How to Fix

  1. Read error codes, record frozen frame data
  2. Inspect the wiring and glow plug connector of cylinder 10 for breaks and damage
  3. Check the continuity of the circuit with a multimeter (continuity test)
  4. Measure the resistance of the glow plug, replace if necessary
  5. Check relay or glow plug control module
  6. After troubleshooting, reset codes and recheck
