Sensor Reference Voltage D Circuit High

Severity
🔴 High
Can you drive?
Do not drive — repair immediately
Approx. repair cost
$22–444 (est.)

Symptoms

  • Check Engine Light Is On
  • Inflated sensor readings (pressure, temperature)
  • Many related sensor error codes
  • Incorrect control of engine systems (fan, fuel)
  • Emergency engine operation

Causes

  • Malfunction of the internal reference voltage regulator in the ECU
  • Shorting the reference voltage line to a wire with a higher potential
  • Damage to the insulation of the wiring harness near the power circuits
  • Incorrect installation or non-original sensor introducing voltage into the line
  • Corrosion or oxidation of connectors with parasitic power path

How to Fix

  1. Read error codes and record frozen frame data
  2. Measure the voltage on the 5V reference power line with the ignition on
  3. Disconnect all sensors of group D, check the voltage without load
  4. If the voltage remains high when the sensors are disconnected, check the ECU
  5. Inspect the wiring harness for contact with power wires.
  6. If necessary, replace the ECU or restore the wiring
