Limited driving only, diagnose soon
Approx. repair cost
$17–222 (est.)
Symptoms
- Periodic appearance and disappearance of sensor error codes
- Unstable engine operation with unpredictable fluctuations
- Check Engine light on
- Unstable idle speed
- Periodic dips when pressing the accelerator pedal
Causes
- Unstable reference voltage source inside the ECU
- Intermittent short or open circuit in circuit E wiring
- Faulty sensor with inconsistent internal resistance
- Poor contact in the connector (oxidation, loosening)
- Vibration effect on damaged wiring
How to Fix
- Check the voltage of circuit E with an oscilloscope for stability and signal shape
- Inspect all circuit E sensor connectors for oxidation and loose connections.
- Carefully check the wiring harness for abrasions that appear due to vibration.
- Turn off sensors one by one to identify the source of instability
- Check the quality of the ECU grounding and the reliability of all connections
- If the wiring is OK, diagnose the ECU.
