Symptoms

• Check Engine Light Illuminates
• Increased fuel consumption
• Unstable engine idling
• Reduced engine power
• Rough engine operation when warming up
• Increased exhaust toxicity

Causes

• Faulty oxygen sensor (lambda probe)
• Short circuit in the sensor heater wiring
• Damaged or corroded sensor connectors
• Faulty oxygen sensor heater relay
• Problems in the heater power circuit
• Engine ECU malfunction
• Break in the ground wire of the sensor

How to Fix

1. Connect a diagnostic scanner and check all error codes
2. Check the operation of the oxygen sensor using a multimeter
3. Measure the resistance of the sensor heater (should be 2-14 Ohms)
4. Check the supply voltage in the sensor connector (should be about 12V)
5. Inspect wiring and connectors for damage and corrosion
6. Check oxygen sensor heater relay
7. If necessary, replace the faulty oxygen sensor
8. Repair or replace damaged wiring
9. Clear error memory and test drive
