Symptoms
- Check Engine Light Illuminates
- Increased fuel consumption
- Unstable engine idling
- Reduced engine power
- Rough engine operation when warming up
- Increased exhaust toxicity
Causes
- Faulty oxygen sensor (lambda probe)
- Short circuit in the sensor heater wiring
- Damaged or corroded sensor connectors
- Faulty oxygen sensor heater relay
- Problems in the heater power circuit
- Engine ECU malfunction
- Break in the ground wire of the sensor
How to Fix
- Connect a diagnostic scanner and check all error codes
- Check the operation of the oxygen sensor using a multimeter
- Measure the resistance of the sensor heater (should be 2-14 Ohms)
- Check the supply voltage in the sensor connector (should be about 12V)
- Inspect wiring and connectors for damage and corrosion
- Check oxygen sensor heater relay
- If necessary, replace the faulty oxygen sensor
- Repair or replace damaged wiring
- Clear error memory and test drive
