Symptoms
- Check Engine light on dashboard
- Increased fuel consumption, especially on a cold engine
- Increased exhaust toxicity
- Possible unstable engine operation after a cold start
- Bank 2 oxygen sensor slow warm-up
Causes
- Open or short circuit in bank 2 oxygen sensor heater circuit
- Burnt out heating element inside the sensor
- Blown lambda probe heater circuit fuse
- Faulty relay or heater control key in the ECU
- Mechanical damage or breakage of the sensor connector
How to Fix
- Read codes, check for related codes on oxygen sensors
- Check the lambda probe heater circuit fuse (usually in the engine fuse box)
- Measure the resistance of the sensor heater between the corresponding connector contacts (standard 2–20 Ohms)
- Check the supply voltage to the heater when the engine is running.
- Inspect the sensor connector and wiring for damage and oxidation.
- If the heater is faulty, replace the oxygen sensor of bank 2, sensor 1
