Symptoms

  • Check Engine light on
  • No data from cylinder 7 in the diagnostic scanner
  • Possible unstable operation of cylinder 7
  • Slight reduction in engine efficiency
  • Intermittent misfires

Causes

  • Broken signal wire of cylinder 7 pressure sensor
  • Signal wire short circuit to ground
  • Internal sensor failure (short inside)
  • Damage to the connector or the contact being pulled out of the connector
  • Contact corrosion

How to Fix

  1. Disconnect the cylinder 7 pressure sensor connector
  2. Measure the voltage of the signal contact in the harness without a connected sensor (expected ~5V reference)
  3. If the voltage in the harness is normal, replace the sensor
  4. If the voltage is low, test the signal wire for open and short circuit to ground
  5. Eliminate the detected wiring defect or replace the sensor
  6. Connect the connector, reset the codes, start the engine and check
