$22–167 (est.)

Symptoms

  • Check Engine intermittently flashing on and off
  • Random misfire in cylinder 8
  • Unstable engine operation, appearing and disappearing
  • Temporary dips during overclocking
  • Temperature- or exercise-dependent symptoms that are difficult to predict

Causes

  • Loose or partially oxidized cylinder 8 pressure sensor connector
  • Frayed or broken wiring insulation (especially in kinks)
  • Incipient pressure sensor failure (unstable internal contact)
  • Vibration loosening of the sensor mount
  • Thermal degradation of wiring insulation due to proximity to the exhaust system

How to Fix

  1. With the engine running, gently wiggle the sensor connector for cylinder 8 - is the code reproduced?
  2. Inspect the wiring harness of cylinder 8 along its entire length, paying attention to places of kinks and contact with hot parts
  3. Check the signal with an oscilloscope at different engine modes and temperatures
  4. Clean the connector, apply contact lubricant, make sure it is securely fastened
  5. Carry out thermal tests (warm up/cool down the engine) to reproduce the symptom
  6. Replace the sensor or damaged section of the harness if a defect is detected
