Approx. repair cost
$33–133 (est.)

Symptoms

  • The Check Engine light is on; the code may disappear and appear again
  • Irregular warnings of ABS, ESP, ACC systems
  • Random jerking or instability when braking
  • Unpredictable behavior of regenerative braking
  • Adaptive cruise control turns off spontaneously

Causes

  • Unreliable contact in the sensor connector: oxidation, loose pins
  • Crack or break in the wire in the harness in the bending area when the pedal is operated
  • Incipient sensor failure with unstable output signal
  • Vibration in the pedal block area, causing periodic contact loss
  • Previously poorly performed wiring repairs in the pedal unit

How to Fix

  1. Read codes; check sensor B data in graph mode when pressing the pedal multiple times
  2. Inspect the sensor connector: move the harness near the connector with the ignition running, observing the signal
  3. Check the wiring harness in the pedal unit area: bend and straighten the wires, looking for points with broken contact
  4. Measure the resistance of the wire from the sensor connector to the ECU at different positions of the harness.
  5. Clean and crimp the contacts of the sensor connector or replace the connector
  6. Replace brake pedal position sensor B if instability is coming from the sensor itself
