$33–167 (est.)

Symptoms

  • The Check Engine light is on; ABS, ESP warnings possible
  • Reduced accuracy of active safety systems
  • Incorrect behavior of adaptive cruise control when braking
  • Jerky or unstable regenerative braking on a hybrid
  • Brake warning on the dashboard

Causes

  • Zero point offset or non-linearity of one of the sensors (A or B)
  • Different wear of sensors A and B during long-term use
  • Incorrect installation of the sensor after replacement without calibration
  • Unstable or different reference voltage for sensors A and B
  • Partial malfunction of one of the sensors while maintaining the functionality of the other

How to Fix

  1. Read codes; check the readings of both sensors (A and B) simultaneously in real time through the scanner
  2. Compare sensor readings when you smoothly press and release the pedal - determine which of them deviates from the norm
  3. Check the reference voltage and ground of both sensors - make sure the power supply is the same
  4. If one sensor is clearly in error, check its connector, wiring and mechanical installation
  5. Perform the brake pedal sensor calibration procedure according to the manufacturer's documentation
  6. Replace the faulty sensor and repeat the calibration
