Symptoms

  • Check Engine light comes on
  • High voltage on-board network (above 15 V)
  • Flashing or burning out lamps
  • Battery overheating
  • Incorrect operation of electronic components

Causes

  • Short circuit of the sensor signal wire to power supply positive
  • Generator voltage regulator malfunction
  • Damage to the wiring insulation in the harness
  • Lost contact in the connector (accidental contact with positive)
  • ECU malfunction

How to Fix

  1. Measure the actual on-board voltage with a multimeter
  2. Check the sensor signal wire for a short circuit with the positive wire
  3. Inspect the generator wiring harness for damaged insulation.
  4. Check generator voltage regulator
  5. If a regulator malfunction is confirmed, replace the regulator or generator
