Symptoms

  • Check Engine light comes on
  • Unstable or increased voltage of the on-board network
  • Battery may drain quickly
  • Flickering or unstable lighting
  • Charging system warning on instrument panel

Causes

  • Open or short circuit in the generator voltage sensor circuit
  • Oxidation of generator connectors
  • Malfunction of the voltage sensor inside the generator
  • Generator voltage regulator malfunction
  • ECU malfunction

How to Fix

  1. Check the voltage of the on-board network with a multimeter (normal: 13.5–14.5 V with the engine running)
  2. Inspect the wiring and connectors of the generator
  3. Check the continuity of the voltage sensor circuit according to the diagram
  4. Check generator voltage regulator
  5. If necessary, replace the generator or repair it
