Symptoms

  • Check Engine light comes on

  • Low voltage on-board network
  • Battery low
  • Unstable operation of electrical consumers

Causes

  • Break in the signal wire of the generator voltage sensor
  • Poor contact or oxidation of the generator connector
  • Signal circuit short to ground
  • Malfunction of the voltage regulator (with built-in sensor)
  • ECU malfunction (rare)

How to Fix

  1. Measure the voltage in the sensor circuit with a multimeter according to the electrical diagram
  2. Check the signal wire from the generator to the ECU for open and short to ground
  3. Clean and check all generator connectors
  4. Check generator voltage regulator
  5. Replace voltage regulator or alternator if fault is confirmed
