Intake Manifold Tuning Valve Performance Bank 1

Severity

Approx. repair cost
$22–444 (est.)

Symptoms

  • Check Engine light comes on
  • Torque reduction in low or high speed range
  • The engine runs less efficiently in a certain rpm range
  • Increased fuel consumption
  • Minor dips at certain engine speeds

Causes

  • Mechanical jamming of the intake manifold valve (carbon deposits, deformation)
  • Incorrect valve position due to wear or deformation of the manifold
  • Valve actuator malfunction (solenoid or vacuum)
  • Vacuum leak (for vacuum valve actuator)
  • Carbon deposits on the walls of the intake manifold, interfering with valve movement

How to Fix

  1. Check the operation of the valve using a command from a professional scanner (activation/deactivation)
  2. Inspect the valve for carbon deposits and contamination.
  3. Clean the valve and its drive mechanism with carb cleaner
  4. Check vacuum hoses (for vacuum drive)
  5. Check the electric valve actuator for functionality
  6. If mechanically jammed, replace the valve or manifold
