Symptoms
- Check Engine light comes on
- Reduced torque (valve stuck open) or maximum power (valve stuck closed)
- The engine performs slightly worse in a certain rpm range
- Otherwise the engine runs fine
- Possible extraneous hum from the intake manifold
Causes
- Open wire in valve solenoid control circuit
- Broken valve solenoid winding
- Lost contact in the IMTV valve solenoid connector
- Blown solenoid circuit fuse (if equipped)
- Malfunction of the ECU output stage (rare)
How to Fix
- Check the valve solenoid resistance with a multimeter (winding break)
- Check the voltage and presence of a control signal at the solenoid with the engine running
- Inspect the wiring and solenoid connector for breaks and oxidation.
- Check the solenoid circuit fuse
- If the wire is broken, repair or replace the wiring harness
- If the solenoid is faulty, replace the IMTV valve
