Symptoms

  • Difficulty or impossible to start a cold engine
  • Increased starter cranking time
  • White smoke from the exhaust pipe during cold start
  • Check Engine Light Is On
  • Unstable engine operation when warming up

Causes

  • Faulty glow plug cylinder 9 (short circuit)
  • Damaged or broken glow plug circuit wiring
  • Faulty glow plug relay
  • Oxidation or poor contact in the circuit connector
  • Malfunction of the glow plug control module

How to Fix

  1. Read all error codes, record parameters in case of malfunction
  2. Visually inspect the wiring and glow plug connector of cylinder 9 for damage and oxidation
  3. Measure the resistance of the glow plug of cylinder 9 (standard 0.5–2 Ohm), replace if there is a deviation
  4. Check the presence of power and ground on the glow plug relay, replace the relay if faulty
  5. Check the integrity of the wiring between the computer and the glow plug, eliminate breaks or short circuits
  6. Reset error codes and check system operation after repair
