Symptoms
- Difficulty starting the engine at low temperatures
- White smoke on cold start
- Check Engine Light Is On
- Increased fuel consumption during warm-up
- Engine vibration when starting in cold weather
Causes
- Broken wire in the glow plug control circuit for cylinder 9
- Short circuit to power in the control circuit
- Malfunction of the transistor switch of the spark plug control module
- Oxidation or poor connector contact
- Faulty glow plug relay
How to Fix
- Read error codes and record frozen frame parameters
- Inspect the wiring of the glow plug circuit of cylinder 9, identify insulation damage
- Check glow plug resistance (0.5–2 Ohm), replace if necessary
- Check for an open circuit using a multimeter (continuity test)
- Check relay and glow plug control module, replace if necessary
- Clean the connectors, eliminate identified faults, reset codes and check the result
