Sensor Reference Voltage A Circuit Range/Performance

Severity
⚠️ Medium
Can you drive?
Limited driving only, diagnose soon
Approx. repair cost
$6–56 (est.)

Symptoms

  • Check Engine Light Is On
  • Periodically unstable engine operation
  • Floating idle speed
  • Inconsistent sensor readings
  • Periodic failures during acceleration

Causes

  • Poor contact or oxidation of the connector of one of the sensors of group A
  • Incipient breakdown of 5V line wire insulation
  • Sensor with unstable internal resistance
  • Microcrack in the track of the ECU printed circuit board
  • Moisture in the connector or wiring harness

How to Fix

  1. Read the error codes, pay attention to the intermittent codes of sensors of group A
  2. Inspect all group A sensor connectors for oxidation, corrosion, poor contact
  3. Perform a wiggle test on the wiring with the engine running - monitor the response on an oscilloscope
  4. Measure the reference voltage in the dynamics with an oscilloscope
  5. Eliminate bad contacts, replace damaged wiring sections
  6. Reset codes and do a long test drive
