Sensor Reference Voltage C Circuit Range/Performance

Severity
⚠️ Medium
Can you drive?
Limited driving only, diagnose soon
Approx. repair cost
$6–44 (est.)

Symptoms

  • Check Engine Light Is On
  • Unstable engine operation when the load changes
  • Periodic deviations in sensor readings
  • Intermittent dips when accelerating
  • Sometimes - errors in related systems (automatic transmission, ABS)

Causes

  • Poor contact in the sensor connector belonging to group C
  • Incipient breakdown of reference voltage wire insulation
  • Unstable sensor with variable internal resistance
  • Moisture getting into the harness or connector
  • Instability of the reference voltage regulator in the ECU

How to Fix

  1. Read all error codes and identify group C sensors using the diagram
  2. Inspect the Group C sensor connectors for oxidation and poor contacts.
  3. With the engine running, perform a wiggle test on the Group C harness while observing the scanner data.
  4. Measure the reference voltage with an oscilloscope under load
  5. Replace the sensor or restore the wiring if a faulty element is identified
  6. Reset codes, test drive in various modes
