Symptoms
- Check Engine light on
- Constantly high oil pressure
- Increased noise level of the oil pump
- Oil leaks through seals at high pressure
- Reduced fuel economy due to persistently high oil pressure
Causes
- Mechanical valve jamming due to oil contamination
- Resinous deposits on the valve during rare oil changes
- Internal break or interturn short circuit of the valve winding
- Failure to supply a control signal from the computer
- Physical damage to the valve
How to Fix
- Check the level, condition and time of replacement of the engine oil
- Check valve control circuit (power, signal, ground)
- Remove the oil pressure valve and check its movement
- Wash the valve with a special cleaner; if it doesn’t help, replace it
- Change the oil and oil filter
- Reset the error and perform a test drive to confirm the resolution
