Symptoms

  • Check Engine light on
  • Constantly high oil pressure
  • Increased noise level of the oil pump
  • Oil leaks through seals at high pressure
  • Reduced fuel economy due to persistently high oil pressure

Causes

  • Mechanical valve jamming due to oil contamination
  • Resinous deposits on the valve during rare oil changes
  • Internal break or interturn short circuit of the valve winding
  • Failure to supply a control signal from the computer
  • Physical damage to the valve

How to Fix

  1. Check the level, condition and time of replacement of the engine oil
  2. Check valve control circuit (power, signal, ground)
  3. Remove the oil pressure valve and check its movement
  4. Wash the valve with a special cleaner; if it doesn’t help, replace it
  5. Change the oil and oil filter
  6. Reset the error and perform a test drive to confirm the resolution
