Symptoms

  • The oil pressure light comes on at high speeds
  • Check Engine light on
  • Engine noise during acceleration
  • Reduced engine power
  • Increased oil consumption

Causes

  • Mechanical valve jamming in open position
  • Deposits and contamination in the valve oil passage
  • Valve spring damage
  • ECU malfunction (does not generate a closing signal)
  • Violation of the electrical control circuit

How to Fix

  1. Check actual oil pressure with a mechanical pressure gauge
  2. Make sure there is a control signal on the valve when the engine speed increases
  3. Remove the valve and check its condition
  4. Check the integrity of the valve spring
  5. Flush or replace valve
  6. Check for contamination in the oil line
