Symptoms

- Difficulty starting the engine
- Jerking when braking the engine

- Uneven engine operation when releasing gas
Causes
- Break in the wiring to the fuel shut-off valve
- Short circuit in valve control circuit
- Fuel cut-off valve malfunction
- Valve connector oxidized or damaged
- Engine control module (ECM) malfunction
- Wiring harness damage
- Poor ground in valve circuit
How to Fix
- Connect the OBD scanner and read all error codes
- Check the fuel shutoff valve electrical connectors for corrosion or damage.
- Measure the resistance of the fuel shut-off valve with a multimeter
- Check the integrity of the wiring from the ECM to the valve
- Check the supply voltage at the valve with the engine running
- Replace faulty fuel shut-off valve if necessary
- Repair damaged wiring or connectors
- Clear error codes and test drive to check
- If necessary, replace the engine control unit
