- Difficulty starting a cold engine
Causes
- Malfunction of the oxygen sensor heating element
- Open or short circuit in sensor wiring
- Oxidation or corrosion of connectors
- Faulty relay or sensor circuit fuse
- ECU damage (rare)
- Mechanical damage to the sensor
How to Fix
- Read error codes with a scanner and record freeze frame data
- Check the fuses and relays of the oxygen sensor circuit
- Measure the resistance of the sensor heater (should be 2-14 Ohms)
- Check the integrity of the wiring from the ECU to the sensor
- Inspect connectors for corrosion and oxidation
- If necessary, replace the oxygen sensor
- Clear error codes and test drive
- Recheck for errors
