Symptoms

  • Difficulty starting the engine at low temperatures
  • Uneven engine operation after a cold start
  • White or bluish smoke from the exhaust pipe
  • Check Engine Light Is On
  • Increased diesel fuel consumption

Causes

  • Faulty glow plug cylinder 9
  • Open or short circuit in circuit wiring
  • Oxidation of glow plug connector contacts
  • Malfunction of the glow plug control module
  • Insufficient voltage on-board network

How to Fix

  1. Connect a diagnostic scanner and read all available error codes
  2. Inspect the wiring and glow plug connector of cylinder 9 for damage and oxidation
  3. Check the resistance of the glow plug with an ohmmeter (the norm is 0.5–2 Ohm)
  4. Check the supply voltage at the spark plug connector when the ignition is turned on.
  5. Replace a faulty glow plug if the parameters deviate
  6. Check the operation of the glow plug control module if the wiring is correct.
