Symptoms

  • Check Engine light on
  • Glow plug of cylinder 12 does not warm up
  • Difficult cold engine start
  • White smoke when starting in cold weather
  • Uneven engine operation after a cold start

Causes

  • Breakage of the heating element of the glow plug of cylinder 12
  • Broken power wire in the wiring harness
  • Closing the control wire with the power circuit
  • Oxidation of connector contacts, breaking contact
  • Internal malfunction of the module power switch

How to Fix

  1. Check the resistance of the glow plug of cylinder 12 - if the value is OL (infinity), the spark plug is broken
  2. Replace a faulty glow plug
  3. Check the integrity of the power wire between the module and the spark plug
  4. Inspect the spark plug connector for oxidation and make sure there is reliable contact.
  5. Avoid short-circuiting the control wire with the power circuit
  6. If the spark plug and wiring are in good condition, check the spark plug control module
