Cylinder 12 Glow Plug Control Circuit Low

Symptoms

  • Check Engine light on
  • Cold starting of the V12 engine is difficult
  • White smoke when starting
  • Unstable operation after a cold start
  • The pre-heating lamp lights up abnormally

Causes

  • Short circuit of the heating element of the cylinder 12 spark plug
  • Damage to the insulation of the spark plug power wire
  • Moisture getting into the spark plug socket
  • Contact corrosion causing short circuit
  • Control module power switch malfunction

How to Fix

  1. Disconnect glow plug for cylinder 12
  2. Measure the resistance of the wire between the connector and ground (should be infinite)
  3. Check the resistance of the spark plug with an ohmmeter (short circuit - resistance is close to zero)
  4. Replace the spark plug if there is an internal short circuit.
  5. Restore wiring if there is a short circuit
  6. Check the power switches of the spark plug control module
