Symptoms

• Check Engine light on
• Difficulty cold starting a diesel engine
• The pre-heating lamp does not go out at the set time
• White smoke on startup
• Unstable engine operation during warm-up period

Causes

• Short circuit of the glow plug circuit wire of cylinder 11 to ground
• Internal short circuit in the heating element of the candle
• Damaged insulation in the wiring harness
• Corrosion and short circuit in the spark plug connector
• Malfunction of the power switch of the spark plug control module

How to Fix

1. Disconnect the glow plug connector for cylinder 11
2. Measure the resistance of the wire from the connector to ground (should be infinite)
3. Measure the resistance of the spark plug (standard 0.5–2 ohms) to identify an internal short circuit
4. If the wire insulation is broken, restore or replace the wiring
5. If the spark plug is faulty, replace the glow plug
6. Check the operation of the spark plug control module after replacement
