Symptoms

Causes

  • Faulty oxygen sensor (lambda probe)
  • Open or short circuit in heater wiring
  • Corrosion or oxidation of connector contacts
  • Faulty heater circuit fuse
  • Problems in the engine control unit
  • Wiring harness damage
  • Bad sensor ground

How to Fix

  1. Read error codes with a diagnostic scanner
  2. Check oxygen sensor circuit fuses
  3. Inspect the sensor connector for corrosion and damage.
  4. Measure the resistance of the sensor heater (should be 2-14 Ohms)
  5. Check the supply voltage at the sensor connector
  6. Check the wiring from the sensor to the control unit
  7. If necessary, replace the oxygen sensor
  8. Clean the connector contacts and treat with a protective compound
  9. Clear error codes and take a test drive
