Approx. repair cost
$22–167 (est.)

Symptoms

  • Check Engine light is on
  • Blinds are fixed in one position (usually open)
  • Slight decrease in fuel efficiency
  • Slow engine warm-up in winter
  • Possible engine control errors due to changes in thermal conditions

Causes

  • Short circuit of the position sensor signal wire to power (+5 V or +12 V)
  • Internal sensor malfunction (produces maximum voltage)
  • Damage to wiring insulation with a short to adjacent circuits
  • Oxidation of the connector leading to signal distortion
  • Faulty blind control module

How to Fix

  1. Read all error codes, pay attention to the accompanying blinds codes
  2. Inspect the wiring and connector of the blind position sensor for insulation damage
  3. Measure the voltage of the sensor signal wire with the ignition on
  4. Check that the signal wire is not shorted to the power wires (+5 V, +12 V)
  5. Disconnect the sensor and check the voltage at the ECU connector - if it is high, there is a fault in the wiring
  6. Replace the position sensor or blind module if a sensor fault is confirmed
  7. Reset codes and check system operation
