Causes

  • Faulty oxygen sensor heater
  • Open or short circuit in heater circuit wiring

  • Heater Circuit Fuse Malfunction
  • Heater control relay problems
  • Engine ECU malfunction
  • Damage to wiring harness due to high temperature

How to Fix

  1. Connect a diagnostic scanner and read all error codes
  2. Check the condition of the engine control system fuses
  3. Visually inspect the wiring to the oxygen sensor for damage.
  4. Measure the resistance of the oxygen sensor heater (usually 2-14 ohms)
  5. Check the supply voltage at the sensor connector with the engine running
  6. Check the integrity of the sensor ground wire
  7. If necessary, replace the faulty oxygen sensor
  8. Repair damaged wiring or connectors
  9. Clear error codes and test drive
  10. Recheck the system with a diagnostic scanner
