Symptoms
- Increased fuel consumption
- Unstable engine idling
- Reduced engine power
- Increased exhaust emissions
- Check Engine Light Illuminated
- Long-term warming up of the engine to operating temperature
Causes
- Faulty oxygen sensor bank 2 positions 3
- Broken or damaged heater circuit wiring
- Corrosion or oxidation of sensor connector contacts
- Blown heater circuit fuse
- Engine control unit (ECU) malfunction
- Short circuit in the heater circuit to ground or positive
- High resistance in the heater power circuit
How to Fix
- Connect the OBD scanner and read all error codes
- Check the oxygen sensor heater circuit fuses.
- Visually inspect the oxygen sensor and its wiring for damage.
- Check the resistance of the oxygen sensor heater (usually 2-14 ohms)
- Measure the supply voltage at the sensor connector (should be 12V)
- Check the integrity of the wiring from the ECU to the sensor
- Clean the connector contacts from corrosion and oxidation
- If necessary, replace the oxygen sensor
- Reset error codes and take a test drive
- Recheck the system with a scanner
